Backwards

We thought we were out of the woods with this vomiting with Addie, but we are not. Addie threw up twice at dinner last night. Before that, she hadn't thrown up since Friday at lunch-and she had eaten all kinds of things that were not "bland" and kept them down fine. So, we are pretty convinced Addie does not have a virus, but something else is going on. We have no idea what it is, which makes us nervous. When we went to the doc on Friday, she told me to call if the symptoms did not go away within 3 days. She also said a urine sample would be the next step, so I'll be working on getting that this morning, as well as calling the doctor. Addie has not been herself the past few days-she is always whining, saying she's sleepy. She will randomly say her tummy hurts also. She definitely has no idea what's going on. Please pray that we will be able to figure out what is going on with her, and that God will give us, as well as the doctor's wisdom to figure all of this out. Also, please pray that Addie is calm throughout this all. I'm assuming we might have to go see the doctor at least once, maybe more, which can be very scary for Addie. This makes it extremely difficult for the doctor to even check her at all. Thank you all for praying-hopefully we will have some answers soon.

Thank you!

Thank you so much to everyone that has been praying for Addie. She has gone all day without throwing up, and has eaten 2 good meals today. She just went to bed, and we are hoping for a great night's sleep for her, and that she will wake up healthy, happy, and well rested. We are so grateful that Addie is feeling better, and are thankful for all of you that have been praying for her. Most of all, we are thankful for God's healing for our little girl, and that it was only a virus that she was sick with. Now, hopefully the sickness is gone for good!

Addie update

I took Addie to the doctor this afternoon, and the doctor seems to think it must be some kind of stomach virus, even though it only seems to be affecting her when she eats. It was hard for the doctor to be able to check Addie because she was freaking out so much (for example, she could not even feel her stomach to see if it is all soft because Addie was screaming, and her stomach muscles were all flexed). She said it is good that Addie is not telling us her tummy hurts all the time, or that it is keeping her from wanting to run and play. But, she gave us an anti-nausea medicine for her to take tonight, and told us to have her drink Gatorade and give her bland things to eat slowly, as she asks for food. We gave her the medicine tonight as well as a cup full of Gatorade (we called it her "special drink" since she's never had anything to drink regularly other than milk and water-she was a big fan!). She also ate a few tortilla chips and Cheerios. Everything seemed to sit fine-she hasn't complained that her tummy hurt, so that is great. We'll see what tomorrow holds. I thought she was fine when she woke up this morning, then was obviously wrong 5 minutes into lunch, so we'll take it slow. The doctor said to call if she was still having the same symptoms after 3 full days, so that will be the end of the day tomorrow. Thank you for your prayers, and please keep praying. We hope this will be done with tomorrow, and that none of us will get it, if it is a virus-especially little Levi. I will update again when there are any changes.

Pray for Addie

I have a quick prayer request for anyone who looks at this often enough/happens to see it in the next few hours. Addie has thrown up after almost every meal since yesterday at breakfast. The only things she has kept down are crackers and plain Cheerios as well as a little water. She acts fine any other time. The throwing up scares her, but once it's over and cleaned up, she is back to playing and having fun. She has only peed once since getting up this morning and it was only a tiny bit. So, she seems to be somewhat dehydrated, which isn't really surprising. I just called the doctor to see what I should try to give her to eat/drink to at least get something in her and the nurse told me that she needs to come in. I guess her symptoms are weird since she acts fine when she's not throwing up, no fever, etc. So, she has a doctor's appointment this afternoon at 4:10 and we're hoping it will help us figure out what we can do to help our little girl be able to eat again and get better. Addie is extremely scared of the doctor's office, so also pray that she is calm and lets the doctor check her the way she needs to. I will try and update on here as soon as I know anything. Thanks so much!

Back to the waterfalls

We had a beautiful weekend here in Mills River, so we decided to head out to the Dupont forest and do some hiking with the kiddos. We tried out our new backpacks for the first time, and were pleased with the experience. It was definitely tiring, but a lot of fun also.

This is the waterfall we hiked to. You can notice at the top of the falls, there is what seems to be a small building. It is a covered bridge we had hoped to hike to as well, but that will have to happen another day. While we were looking at this waterfall, a couple there told us there was another waterfall that was a "short" hike away and "definitely worth it." They were not carrying children on their backs. We decided to go for it, though, and started the trek. As we were hiking, we were going downhill quite a bit, which we for course knew meant we would have to climb back up eventually. We weren't excited about this, but decided to keep going a little further because we started to hear a waterfall, meaning we were getting close. We got to the end of the trail, and looked up at the waterfall-it was the same one we had been looking at before. All we had done, was take a long trail down to the bottom of the waterfall we had been looking at before. It was disappointing, but it was also really cool to see it from below, and up close too. Thankfully, we found a shortcut on the way back and didn't have to do as much uphill climbing as we had thought we would have to do.

6 months old

We celebrated Levi's 1st half-birthday on Saturday! It seemed to have a theme, which was not planned...Thomas the tank engine. He got a Thomas toy from us that plays music as well as a Thomas train that moves and a Thomas book from Nana and Poppi. He (and Addie) love Thomas now! It's hard to believe Levi is already 6 months old. In some ways, it seems like we've had him forever, but in other ways, it seems like he was just born-time is weird like that. Anyways, we are thankful for our happy, healthy, smiley boy.
Thomas book:
Levi had his check-up at the doctor's office this morning. He weighed 13 lb. 15 oz. (3 %), 26 in. (25 %), and his head was 42.25 cm (10 %). He's a little guy. He is growing lengthwise great, but his weight is not continuing at the rate it used to be (he was closer to the 25 % last time we were there). We (his parents) think this is definitely due to his constant activity-if he is awake, he is moving, for the most part. The doctor is not worried about him, but recommended we try to get him eating solid foods consistently and hope to see him get some meat on his bones. She also said this may help with his sleeping through the night, which we are all for. So, hopefully we can convince him to eat some baby food and not to stop pooping (which is what happened last week when he was eating some baby food). Here is our happy boy!

Valentine's Day

We had a really fun Valentine's day yesterday, especially as it was Addie's first one to really celebrate (it's kind of hard to celebrate when you're a baby!). We got to go meet Daddy for lunch, which was a lot of fun. Then, once Daddy got home, Addie got to open her Valentine's gifts. Below are some pictures of the festivities:

Addie got Valentine's from her cousins, Michaela and Trevor, which included candy!

Trying out her "Sweet Tarts" for the first time-they were a hit. She kept saying "more, more"
She also got a card and bracelet from Nana (and Poppi-I'm sure he played a big part in picking them out):
Mommy and Daddy gave her a necklace, a Pez dispenser, and a little wind-up heart that she loved to play with:
Daddy's girl:
Then, we found a box outside our front door that had somehow been delivered without us knowing it! Dottie (and Pops, I'm sure) sent Addie lots of stuff-candy, crackers, and a big stuffed caterpillar!
Dottie remembered Levi as well...he got some new socks and a card! Thanks, Dottie!

Dear God

Thank you to everyone that has given advice in response to my last post. It was much needed as we are still trying to figure all this potty stuff out. I'm sure trying to potty train Levi will be MUCH more difficult than it has been so far with Addie-things with her in general seem to have gone extremely well and low key. We'll see if that is true whenever we decide it's time for her to give up her pacifier...

On another note, here is a video of Addie praying at lunchtime yesterday. Hopefully you can here her okay over her brother screaming in the background-our mealtimes seem to be a hard time for him (and lots of other times I can't hold him-he is a mama's boy these days). Addie has learned an unbelievable amount of words recently-way more than we realize. At dinner last night, Daddy pulled out the pickles, which are something we rarely eat. As soon as Addie saw them, she said "pickle." We couldn't believe she knew that word, seeing as it's a word she does not hear often. Here's the video:

While you're thinking about praying, please pray for my good friend, Catherine, who I mentioned on here last week (she has the "Radical" blog). She is having surgery today to try to fix a heart issue she has been having.

Potty Training Update

We officially started potty training on Thursday of last week (as I mentioned the plan was last post) and while I am not sure exactly what teh requirements are to be "potty trained", Addie has done VERY WELL. However, I am not sure what to do from here-we are definitely learning right there along with her. This is going to be a detailed post about potty training, so if you are only here to see cute pics of the kids, this post is not for you. But, if you are interested, read on.

Day one: Addie was put in panties with no pants as soon as she finished breakfast. We set up camp for the day in the playroom, lined with a tarp since we do not have wood floors. Each time Addie started to pee, I ran her to her little potty so she could finish in that. She was then rewarded with an M and M as well as a sticker to put on her potty chart. We went through 17 pairs of panties that day, but each time she started to pee, she would say "uh-oh, poo poo", meaning she knew what was happening (kind of).

Day two: Addie went through WAY less panties (not sure of an exact count) and went pee in the potty a few times without going in her panties first, which was a huge improvement. Progress was being made, so we were then pretty sure we were going to just stick with it and not be done after 3 days.

Day three: No accidents when going pee! We even went outside to play and she did great.

Addie actually had her first accident since Friday this morning...and it was my fault because I didn't take her to the potty in time. She is really doing great. However, I am not exactly sure where to go from here. I have been told by lots of people not to put Addie in a pull-up once she is potty training because then she will be confused and think she can just go in her diaper, not the potty anymore. But, I also know Addie cannot hold her pee for long once she says she needs to go. So, what to do? She never goes pee on the potty if we just put her on and tell her to try and go. She only goes when she says she needs to and we take her. So, it's not like I can get her to go potty before we leave to go somewhere, to be sure she doeosn't need to go again anytime too soon. We can't stay at the house forever, but I want to get her out of diapers completely (daytime), if she is capable. Also, at this point, Addie is wearing a diaper for her nap as well as at night. She normally does not pee in it while she's sleeping, though, because if we go get her as soon as she wakes up and put her on the potty, her diaper is dry (usually). Does that mean we should try to train to wear panties even while she is sleeping? I'm really not willing to give up sleep for this, as we already have another child waking up at night, and we don't mind putting a diaper on just for naps and bedtime. I also don't want to confuse her, though.

One problem we also have is poop. For the first couple days, she just didn't do it at all. That is not like her-she normally goes at least once a day, sometimes 2 or 3 times. But, she seems to be out of that, and now even says she needs to "poop". Thankfully, she is now differentiating between that and pee. A couple days ago she said she needed to poop and when she sat on the potty she just had gas. So, I told her "Oh, it was just gas, that's okay. Thanks for trying!" Now, she is constantly saying "poop, poop" and I ask her if she needs to poop, to which she says "Yes!" I run her to the potty, she sits down, and nothing happens. She then says "just gas" and starts cracking up (mind you, there is no gas). It was funny the first couple times. Now, it's getting old. In fact, it's the reason she had an accident this morning. Our little girl who cried wolf had been run to the potty countless times with nothing coming out and her mommy (myself) was trying to get dinner in the crock pot, while Levi was screaming his head off, so I ignored her. She of course peed in her panties as well as on the floor and started crying and I felt terrible.

So, to sum it up, Addie has caught on to the potty concept great. I just don't exactly know where to go from here. We still give treats for her going on the potty and get very excited with her when she goes. But, how do we continue to progress to the point of leaving the house in panties? And how do we get her to stop saying she needs to go when she really does not? Any advice ir welcomed. Thanks! We are so proud of our little (growing up) girl! I took a cute video of her earlier today and will try to post it soon so that I don't just have potty stuff on here!
