Back to the waterfalls

We had a beautiful weekend here in Mills River, so we decided to head out to the Dupont forest and do some hiking with the kiddos. We tried out our new backpacks for the first time, and were pleased with the experience. It was definitely tiring, but a lot of fun also.

This is the waterfall we hiked to. You can notice at the top of the falls, there is what seems to be a small building. It is a covered bridge we had hoped to hike to as well, but that will have to happen another day. While we were looking at this waterfall, a couple there told us there was another waterfall that was a "short" hike away and "definitely worth it." They were not carrying children on their backs. We decided to go for it, though, and started the trek. As we were hiking, we were going downhill quite a bit, which we for course knew meant we would have to climb back up eventually. We weren't excited about this, but decided to keep going a little further because we started to hear a waterfall, meaning we were getting close. We got to the end of the trail, and looked up at the waterfall-it was the same one we had been looking at before. All we had done, was take a long trail down to the bottom of the waterfall we had been looking at before. It was disappointing, but it was also really cool to see it from below, and up close too. Thankfully, we found a shortcut on the way back and didn't have to do as much uphill climbing as we had thought we would have to do.
